Held every two years, the UNESCO International Conference on Global Geoparks brings together people from around the world to share the latest discoveries and experiences on a wide variety of topics, from geological research to sustainable tourism, education, or participatory management for sustainable development. This is the most important meeting for managers of UNESCO Global Geoparks and members of the Global Geoparks Network to meet and exchange knowledge and experiences on the construction and operation of Geoparks.
The Moroccan city of Marrakech has been selected to host the 10th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks scheduled for September 2023.
The decision was made by the Board of Directors of the Global Geoparks Network during its meeting in Jeju Island, South Korea, from December 12 to 16.
The objective of this initiative is the promotion and transmission of traditional knowledge, the promotion of local products, the development of respectful outdoor activities through geotourism, and the empowerment of local populations and ethnic groups.
